Edgar Winter Band:
Jazz, funk and rock combined to make this act a success. Hometown boy comes home. Edgar held the crowd's attention from start to finish with crowd pleasers like Frankenstein and Free Ride. Earlier album cuts were also included. The show had a fluid pace thanks to Edgar's easy banter with the crowd, smoothing over technical glitches. The three bandmates were adept in individual solos and answer and call interplay, a staple of the show. The only detrimental aspect was the quality of the vocal mix.
Roger Clyne And The Peacemakers:
The vocals, at times, were buried in the mix like the previous act. The setlist was a mix of old tunes from their salad days and 80's Grammy winners from the MTV phase. Billy Gibbons' guitar playing was unparalleled on display, with choice blues licks and Hendrix-style metal riffs. Dusty Hill and the crowd admirably filled the gaps when needed. Dusty Hills' vocals soared when given a chance, and his bass playing was solid yet showy. Frank Beard's drumming has been consistently dependable for decades. "That Little Old Band from Texas" rocked Beaumont Texas and left the exiting crowd happy and fulfilled.
Jonathan Tyler Band:
Not a bad opening act, although slightly self-deprecating in his "Thank you for listening to me" lines that sounded almost apologetic. It was a little loud on the low end for an opening act, making it tough to adjust my hearing upon arriving. As an opening act, it wouldn't discourage me from seeing a concert. Give them a few years as a headliner and ask me again, would I see them.
